Amuro sets her sights on U.S.
The Japanese pop diva who has reigned over the country's pop charts for the past six years is now dreaming of making it big in America.
Namie Amuro, the 23-year-old singer with caramel-colored hair and a penchant for collecting gold records for her high-powered dance singles, has been thinking about a short move to the United States, her producer Tetsuya Komuro said. The star has worked with American producer Dallas Austin, who has produced top R&B acts like TLC, and there is some buzz in the US that she may have that special something that could earn her a niche in the world's largest music market, Komuro added. But her label, Avex Trax, said it had not heard her express any interest in an overseas move. Her top international gig was probably at last year's Group of Eight summit in Okinawa, where she serenaded leaders of the powerful nations with her song Never End - which was the summit's theme song - and then posed for pictures with the likes of then US President Bill Clinton.
